ELVIS PRESLEY’S FAMOUS MOVIE SPOTS IN HAWAII

It’s no surprise that we are big fans of the King of Rock ‘n Roll, but did you know that the great Elvis Presley was also a big fan of Hawaii? From his huge hit “Aloha from Hawaii” concert at Blaisdell Center in 1973 to the numerous movies filmed around the state, Elvis has always had a special place in his heart for our island home. Here are some of the stops the King made throughout his time in the state:

• Coco Palms Resort
  Though no longer operating, Coco Palms Resort in Wailua, Kauai is still one of the most recognized filming sites for Elvis’s movies. Featured prominently in the famous Blue Hawaii, Coco Palms closed out the film, and was the site where Elvis’s character married in the finale. The movie’s positive reception transformed Coco Palms into a “Blue Hawaii” wedding destination, with thousands of couples flocking to the resort to say “I Do” (while taking advantage of special promotional packages). Unfortunately, the resort was damaged and later closed following the devastating 1992 Hurricane Iniki.
• Hanauma Bay
  Known for its teeming schools of fish and pristine snorkeling conditions, Hanauma Bay is also the site of Elvis’s iconic film Blue Hawaii. Here the film benefited from the bay’s dazzling blue waters and picture-perfect ocean views. The King of Rock ‘n Roll and his film crew returned to Hanauma Bay shortly after wrapping up his seventh film to shoot Girls! Girls! Girls! and Paradise, Hawaiian Style.
• Lydgate Beach Park
  Located on Kauai’s picturesque east shore, Lydgate Beach Park is known for its enclosed ponds, snorkeling and diverse schools of fish. But did you know it also served as the backdrop for Blue Hawaii? This beautiful beach adjacent to the Wailua River was also one of the premier settings of the film.
